First to Follow, First to Invite

John’s brief line—“One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother” (John 1:40)—captures the instant that changed everything. Andrew stands at the doorway of a new work: having heard the prophet and having seen the Lamb, he turns and follows. The scene reminds us that discipleship begins with listening to God’s voice and responding without delay.

Andrew’s faith is quiet and practical. He does not seize headlines or demand recognition; he simply follows Jesus and then leads his brother to the same encounter. That pattern shows us the shape of faithful following: it is personal, humble, and contagious. When one person truly follows Christ, the natural overflow is to point another to Him.

This small, relational movement has big implications for the church and for Christian men called to follow Christ’s example. True leadership in the kingdom often looks like Andrew—listening to God, taking a step of obedience, and inviting others into the discovery of Jesus. It is not forceful or flashy but rooted in confidence that Christ Himself meets those who come.

If you sense the nudge to follow Jesus more fully or to bring someone you love to Him, do not wait. Follow as Andrew did, and invite as Andrew did—trusting that the One you follow will meet you and those you bring. Be encouraged: a single faithful step toward Jesus can start a lineage of discipleship and grace.
