The light that reveals what we had not seen

In the beginning God made the light and, upon beholding it, said that it was good; then He separated the light from the darkness. This divine action is not merely a cosmological account, but a pastoral proclamation: God sees clearly what in us is still in darkness. When I think of "I had not seen", I first acknowledge my own blindness — the inability to perceive God's goodness and purpose until He Himself enlightens my understanding.

The separation God performs is at once judgment and mercy: He distinguishes, out of love, what is life from what is death, so that the good may flourish. In Christ we see this light fulfilled; He exposes the darkness of sin and reveals the beauty of the renewed creation. The phrase "God saw that the light was good" reminds us that the ultimate evaluation is not our passing perception, but the Creator's gaze that declares and establishes the best.

In pastoral practice, this calls us to allow God to declare what is good in our choices and relationships. There are areas in which "we had not seen" our insensitivity to sin, our complacency with habits that extinguish the light, or even our justifications that confuse darkness with clarity. Discerning this requires humble prayer, an examination of conscience, true repentance, and concrete obedience to allow God to remove what hinders the clarity of his light.

If today you recognize that "I had not seen", receive the grace of the One who illuminates the eyes and separates what is good from what destroys. Entrust your blindness to Christ, open yourself to the Lord's loving discipline, and move forward in faith: He not only shows the light but empowers us to walk in it. Rise up with courage — God's light reveals, restores, and sends.
