In Revelation Jesus speaks and presents himself: he has sent his angel to bear witness to the churches, and he declares himself the root and the offspring of David, the bright morning star. This double affirmation reveals to us a Christ who fulfills the historical promise, who speaks to his people and who brings new light at the dawn of our life. As we meditate on this we can say with simplicity and gratitude: thank you, Lord, for being in my life and for letting me sit at your table.
Being the root and the offspring of David means that Jesus is origin and fulfillment; from him the promise springs and in him hope is realized. When we sit at the Lord's table we are not claiming our own merits, but welcoming the hospitality of the One who is the source and the consummation of the promise. This pastoral truth teaches us to depend on his identity, to recognize that our belonging comes from his work and not from our effort.
That Jesus also names himself the bright morning star offers us a practical resource when the night of life threatens to close in: he comes to illuminate gradually, to bring clarity where there was confusion and to renew confidence where there was discouragement. His sending of testimony to the churches reminds us that he is not a remote God; he communicates, calls us to his table and nourishes us through the word, prayer and communion. Living gratefully is responding to that light: attending to his word, feeding ourselves at his table and letting his presence transform our daily decisions.
Today you can strengthen that gratitude and rest in his call: sit confidently at the Savior's table, let his identity sustain you and allow his light to guide your steps. Walk in obedience and in gratitude, knowing that the one who promised and came to kindle the day is with you. Take heart: Jesus, your Morning Star, invites and upholds you!
