Treasuring the Voice of God in the Heart

The book of Proverbs begins by speaking to a beloved son, and so God addresses us today: "My son, if you receive my words and treasure my commandments within you." It is not just about hearing the Bible, but about receiving it as a personal letter from the Father. To receive means to open the heart, allowing the Word to question, comfort, and transform. Treasuring goes beyond memorizing verses; it means valuing what God says above what we feel or think. When Christ dwells in us, His voice becomes the safest treasure amidst a noisy and changing world.

This verse shows us a condition: "if you receive... and treasure..." God does not impose His wisdom forcefully; He invites a free, loving, and constant response. In Christ, we see the perfect Son who completely received and treasured the will of the Father, even to the cross. Therefore, when we come to Jesus, we not only find forgiveness but also a model and a new strength to obey. The Holy Spirit helps us move from a faith of mere ideas to a faith that keeps God's commandments deep in the heart.

Applying this passage today means stopping and asking ourselves what we are treasuring within us. Sometimes we treasure worries, complaints, or foreign voices that extinguish hope. God calls us to make an exchange: to let go of what poisons the soul and make space for His truth. This can be seen in simple decisions: starting the day by reading a passage, meditating on a promise during work, responding with gentleness where we once responded with anger. Thus, little by little, the Word ceases to be something distant and becomes the familiar voice that guides every part of our life.

If today you feel weak, distracted, or far away, this call "My son" is also for you. You do not need to have perfect faith to start; it is enough to open your heart and say: "Lord Jesus, I want to receive your words and treasure them as my treasure." He does not despise those who come with sincerity and little strength, but strengthens those who lean on Him. Every small act of listening and obeying adds up and shapes in you a character that is firmer, wiser, and full of peace. Keep taking steps, one at a time, knowing that God delights in the child who values His voice, and that in Christ, there is always a new beginning to learn to treasure what comes from His heart.
