Did You Recognize Him?

They had walked with him, argued with him, weighed his words, and yet when the moment came their eyes were blind to the truth standing beside them. Luke tells us plainly: “And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.” That sudden clarity—the lifting of fog the moment before dawn—was not the reward of cleverness but the gift of grace. We are invited to imagine the confusion, the heart-prick, and then the astonished recognition that this was the risen Lord.
