Jesus at the Beginning of Your Story

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” With this simple, majestic sentence, Scripture opens not with us, but with God—and in the light of the New Testament, we learn that Jesus Himself is at that beginning. John tells us, “In the beginning was the Word… and the Word was God… all things were made through him” (John 1:1–3), and Paul writes that “all things were created through him and for him” (Colossians 1:16). The Jesus who walked dusty roads in Galilee is the same eternal Son through whom the universe came into existence. This means creation is not random, but deeply personal, spoken into being by the One who would later take on flesh to redeem it. Your life, then, is not an accident; it began in the heart and purpose of Christ before you ever drew a breath.

Seeing Jesus in Genesis 1:1 reshapes how we view God’s power and God’s nearness. The One who hung the stars is the One who stretched out His hands on the cross for you. The Creator who called light out of darkness can speak light into the darkest corners of your heart and circumstances. When you feel small beneath the weight of the world, remember that the hands that formed galaxies also formed you, intentionally and lovingly. You are not just another human on a crowded planet; you are a person Jesus thought of “in the beginning.” Let that truth steady your faith when you are tempted to believe you are unseen, unwanted, or without value.

If all things were created through Jesus and for Jesus, then the purpose of your life is not something you invent, but something you receive from Him. The question is not, “How do I build a life that makes me feel important?” but, “Lord Jesus, how do I live today for the One who made me and saved me?” This touches everything—your work, your relationships, your decisions, even your rest. You can bring your daily schedule, your hidden fears, and your quiet dreams to the same Christ who called the universe into being, trusting that He knows what fits your life best. When life feels chaotic or meaningless, go back to the beginning: God created, and He did so through Jesus, with wise intention and loving design. In prayer, ask Him to reorder your priorities around His purposes, not your pressures.

Finally, Genesis 1:1 invites you to trust Jesus with new beginnings in your own story. The God who started everything from nothing is not intimidated by the emptiness, confusion, or brokenness you see in yourself right now. In Christ, He delights to create again—to give new hearts, new mercies, new strength for each day. You may feel stuck in old patterns of sin, regret, or disappointment, but the Creator specializes in making something beautiful where there was once only void. As you look to Jesus, remember that the One who was there “in the beginning” is with you in this moment, fully able to begin a new work in you and to carry it to completion. Take courage: your life is held by the same powerful, loving hands that first flung the stars into the sky, and He will not let you go.
