Speaking the Name of Jesus: Courage Under Oppression

When the authorities commanded Peter and John to stop speaking in the name of Jesus, they faced a direct challenge to their witness. Yet their response, guided by the Spirit and rooted in Scripture, affirmed a profound truth: there is no other name by which we must be saved. The gospel does not depend on popular approval or human permission; it rests on the power of Christ and the faithfulness of those who proclaim Him. This tension between obedience to God and pressure from the world invites us to examine where our confidence rests and how we live out the name that saves.

In a world that often silences unpopular truths, the call to biblical boldness remains essential. The early believers did not concede their commission; they pressed into prayer, worship, and proclamation. Their stance was not a mere act of rebellion but a confession of grace: salvation comes only through Jesus. When we face similar pressures—whether from culture, work, or family—we can follow their example by grounding our speech in reverence for Christ, seeking wisdom in prayer, and giving a reason for the hope within us with gentleness and respect. The name of Jesus carries not only a message but power to transform hearts and communities.

This is a reminder that obedience to Christ often requires steadfastness in the face of opposition. Our culture may tell us to keep quiet or to adjust our message to gain favor, but the gospel remains the exclusive and saving truth revealed to us. We are invited to persevere in prayer, to trust God with the timing of proclamation, and to lean into the Spirit for courage. May our words reflect the love and truth of Jesus, and may our lives echo His name with integrity, humility, and unwavering devotion.

Encouragement: Stand firm in Christ, speak His name with grace, and trust that God honors faithful witness—even when it comes with resistance. He is the one who saves, and He is with you as you testify to the only name by which we are saved.
