The psalmist offers us a disconcerting scene: not only pastures and still waters, but a table prepared in the midst of opposition. When God prepares a banquet for us, He demonstrates that His provision and care do not depend on circumstances, but on His faithfulness. This table is public — set up before the enemies — so that His people may see that their security and honor come from the Lord. As a pastor, I remember that true trust is born from looking to the Shepherd who leads us to the table and sustains us there.
