The joy that comes from knowing Jesus

The joy the apostle Paul exhorts in Philippians 4:4 is not merely a fleeting feeling, but the fruit of a truth that dwells in the heart that knows Jesus. When we know the person of Christ—his grace, his ways, his faithfulness—joy ceases to depend on circumstances and rests in the presence of God who loves us and sustains us. We are called to cultivate a joy that reveals itself in the trust that He is sovereign, that He works in all things for the good of those who love Him, and that, in Christ, we have been reconciled with the Father.

This joy is born of daily fellowship with Jesus: from reading the Scriptures, from sincere prayer, from the constant remembrance of his life, death, and resurrection. By knowing Jesus, our sadness may exist, but it does not master us; the peace that surpasses all understanding guards our hearts. Biblical joy does not ignore pain, but transforms the weight into offering, leading us to contemplate the future glory and to rely on the strength of the Spirit to persevere amid trials, knowing that the Lord is faithful.

Therefore, may our lives be a continuous prayer of gratitude, even when we face difficulties. The joy that comes from knowing Jesus motivates us to rejoice in all situations, recognizing that the presence of Christ already satisfies us and that, in everything, we can rejoice in the Lord. May each day be a reminder that true contentment is not found in external circumstances, but in Christ, whose goodness surrounds us and whose promise sustains us. I encourage you to cultivate this joy daily, keeping your eyes fixed on Jesus, our Savior and the guiding North of life.
