Rescued from the Current

Ephesians 2:2 confronts us with an uncomfortable but necessary truth: there was a time when we were carried along by the current of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air; a spirit that works in the sons of disobedience. That image shows us that many decisions, habits, and attitudes are not born in a vacuum but are driven by spiritual orientations and by cultural pressure that normalizes disobedience to God.

Faced with this reality, the gospel presents Christ as the decisive answer: His work breaks the logic of being swept along by foreign currents and calls us to a different sonship. In Jesus the power is revealed to deactivate the authority of the prince of darkness over our lives; it is not a mere moral correction, but a spiritual liberation that reorients our identity and will toward the Lord.

Practically, this implies daily discernment: identifying the currents that drag us—desires, conformity, pride—and subjecting them to the light of Christ through prayer, the Word, and the community of faith. Reject thoughts that push you toward disobedience, seek sincere surrender, ask for the Spirit's strength to resist, and replace old habits with practices that nourish obedience and communion with God.

Do not be discouraged if you discover traces of that old current; the same grace that brings us out of it sustains our first steps in obedience. Trust in Christ, seek his presence each day, and persevere in small acts of faithfulness: there the freedom he won for us is manifested. Take heart: walk today intentionally toward Jesus, who rescues you and enables you to live according to his Kingdom.
