God beyond time: seated with Christ

Sibelle S.

As we contemplate Romans 8:28-30, we see a theology that spans time: God works in all things for the good of those who love him, because He knows the whole of His work. Imagine time as a train that runs through the Kingdom; God is not confined to one car, He has access to the whole train. Therefore Paul can assert that those He foreknew were predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son — the divine plan already includes our transformation into Christ, because the Lord is present before the first car and after the last.

The chain of the gospel that Paul describes — those whom He foreknew, predestined, called, justified and glorified — reveals a continuous and certain action of God: it is not an uncertain process, but a work established from beginning to end. In Christ we are called to participate in a reality already inaugurated; Paul tells us that we are seated with Him in the heavenly places. This is a present truth: even amid temporal struggles, our definitive identity is grounded in the eternal position that Christ secures for us.

In pastoral practice, this perspective changes how we face day-to-day life. Knowing that God governs time and history to conform us to Christ brings courage to persevere in trials, humility in correction and perseverance in prayer and obedience. Being 'conformed to the image of His Son' is a process of sanctification that unfolds under the sovereign hand of God; it does not annul our effort, but gives us the assurance to walk: to pray with confidence, serve with hope and endure with patience, for already in Christ we are participants in heavenly life.

Therefore, seize the truth that you are not a lost passenger in a drifting car: you were known, called and secured by the one who conquers time. Let this certainty shape your choices and fill your heart with hope in the face of struggles. Stand firm: you are already in Christ, and the glory that awaits you is certain — live today the reality of heaven with courage and hope.
