Hi — Loving Discipline

Hi. The proverb confronts us: Whoever desires knowledge loves discipline, but the one who hates reproof lacks understanding. Loving discipline is the mark of someone who seeks knowledge and wisdom; hating reproof reveals a hard heart and a lack of discernment. I begin with this greeting because the invitation is personal: being discipled requires a willingness to be corrected.

Discipline and reproof, in the biblical context, are not gratuitous humiliation, but means by which God and the community shape character. Discipline corrects paths, points out errors, and directs toward the truth; reproof, when given in love and grounded in Scripture, is an instrument of grace that restores us to wisdom. Recognizing this purpose changes our reaction: from immediate defense to humble listening.

In practice, cultivating receptivity requires concrete habits: ask for prayer when receiving correction, listen without interrupting, compare the point with Scripture, confess where there is truth, and apply specific changes. Seek godly counselors, record what you learn, and ask the Spirit for the fruit of repentance and perseverance, remembering that transformation is gradual and happens in community.

Receive today this 'hi' as a call to openness: allow God and brothers to correct you so that you may grow in judgment and wisdom. Do not fear reproof when it comes in love; it points to life. Rise with courage, adjust your step, and trust that by loving discipline you will walk closer to Christ — persevere and bear witness to the maturity that is born of obedience and repentance.
