His Time, Not Ours: Trust in the Sovereignty of Christ

When I read John 11:6 in light of the notes: Jesus arrives at his own timing, not ours, I am led to recognize that divine temporality defies our haste. Amid Lazarus’s illness, Jesus’s delay reveals that God’s kingdom does not operate according to our clock, but according to the Father’s will who works in all things for his purpose. The pastoral response is to learn to wait for him with faith, even if the wait brings pain, uncertainty, and inner questions about what seems delayed before human eyes.

The beauty of the biblical text is revealed in the practice of trusting when the situation seems unsolvable. Jesus does not run; he remains where he chose, revealing that his presence is enough to keep hope alive. Who are we in light of this? We are reminded that salvation does not depend on our timing, but on Christ’s wisdom who knows the end from the beginning. The devotional reflection turns toward abandoning anxiety, recognizing dependence on God, and cultivating the patience that yields robust faith.

In our walk, the central lesson is that Christ’s grace is sovereign over time. Even when illness, pain, or waiting seems like a delay, we have the assurance that Jesus is in control, working for the good of those who love him. May we, as followers, choose to trust in Jesus’ right time, offering sincere prayer, aligning our plans with his. And may we receive encouragement that when human time closes, divine time opens doors of life, purpose, and hope for today and tomorrow.
