Full of Life

The verse Exodus 1:19 presents us with a simple and powerful scene: in the face of violence and a decree of death, the Hebrew women showed something that culture could not take away — life that manifests itself readily. 'The Hebrew women are not like the Egyptian women. They are full of life and give birth before the midwives arrive.' The expression conveys not only a physical event, but the presence of a life force preserved by God amid oppression.

Theologically, this life is a sign of the Lord's faithfulness in fulfilling his promise of preservation and hope for his people. In Christ we find the fullness of this life: a life that overcomes the world's attempt to destroy, that is born even under pressure, and that ensures the continuity of God's people. Just as the physical life of the Hebrew women was an instrument of divine purposes, our spiritual life is the means by which God accomplishes his will in history.

From a pastoral perspective, the text calls us to live as those who bring life: souls fertile in love, faith, and witness, ready to act before circumstances prevent it. This translates into concrete practices — constant prayer, loving presence in the family, courage to witness, active discipleship — knowing that God works in small and quick manifestations of faithfulness. In times of difficulty, let us not become complacent in inertia; let us be agents who allow God to bring about birth and growth.

Therefore, keep your heart open to be a living instrument in God's hands: expect his action, act in faith and do not fear opposition. May you be full of life to give hope where there is despair, perseverance where there is fear, and fruit where there is barrenness. Go forward with courage — God is the author of life and wants to use you so that his purpose may advance.
