Rescued from the Current

Ephesians 2:2 confronts us with an ancient and living reality: there was a time when we walked "according to the course of this world," subjected to the "prince of the power of the air," a spirit that works in the children of disobedience. This image shows us clearly how human life can be swept along by invisible forces that shape desires, decisions, and paths without our noticing. It is not a neutral metaphor: it is a warning about the seriousness of living disconnected from the truth and the light of Christ.

Recognizing that condition is not to condemn, but to understand the urgent need for the redeeming work of Jesus. If the current of the world and the prince of the power were pushing our steps, the gospel proclaims that Christ came to break that bondage, to bring freedom and renewal. Salvation transforms the direction of life: it ceases to be guided by currents opposed to God and begins to flow according to the Spirit who gives life.

In practice this implies vigilance and daily decision: identifying the currents that carry us (normalized sins, worldly ambitions, ideological influences) and turning away from them; nourishing ourselves with the Word and prayer to recognize the Lord's voice; living in community where truth is spoken with love; and exercising obedience that manifests the new orientation of the heart. It is not an isolated effort, but the cooperative action of the Spirit who enables us to resist and walk in integrity.

Therefore, brother, sister, do not despair for having been swept away; look to Jesus who breaks the dominion of the prince of darkness and restores the lost children. Stay alert, cling to the cross, and let his Spirit reorient your steps: there is true freedom and firm hope. Keep going with courage, for he who began the good work in you will perfect it and sustain you in the struggle.
