Jesus invites us, in Matthew 5:45, to see the world through the eyes of the Father who is in heaven. He calls us to adopt a divine perspective, to look at people and life situations not only from our human criteria but from the heart of God.
In this verse, Jesus reminds us that God makes the sun rise on the evil and the good, showing that His light and favor reach everyone. Similarly, He sends rain both to the righteous and the unrighteous, sustaining the lives of those who love Him and also of those who do not even recognize His hand.
This means that God's love is not selective, nor conditioned by people's behavior. The Father does not distribute His care only to those who deserve it, especially because, in light of God's holiness, no one truly deserves it. Everything we receive from Him is a result of grace, not human merit.
Still, He acts with kindness even towards those who reject and ignore Him, revealing the depth and perseverance of His love. It is this pattern of love, free, generous, and constant, that Jesus places before us as a target and daily calling for our way of loving, treating, and welcoming others.
