When God Takes You Where You Didn't Expect

Esther did not arrive at the palace by her own choice, but because a decree from the king moved everyone around her. From the outside, it seemed like just a human order, another political decision in the Persian empire. But behind that movement of people and decisions was the invisible hand of God guiding history. Esther was taken to a place she did not choose, in circumstances she surely did not fully understand. However, God already saw beyond, preparing her for a purpose that would change the lives of many. Likewise, many times, the Lord leads us down paths we do not plan, but that He has already thought out for good.

It is important to note that the text says Esther was "taken," not that she sought or pursued that honor. Sometimes we think that God's will is only fulfilled when we feel everything is clear and decided, but here we see God working even amidst others' decisions and unjust structures. Esther lived in a pagan environment, under a government that did not know the God of Israel, and yet the Lord ruled above all. This reminds us that Christ is the sovereign King, even when the powers of this world seem to dominate. He does not lose control of history, nor of the small and large details of your life. Although others may seem to decide for you, Jesus remains the Lord of your future.

Moreover, Esther was placed "under the custody" of Hegai, someone who also did not fully know God's plan, but who was part of that process. Perhaps you also feel "under custody" of circumstances you cannot control: a job you did not choose, an unexpected illness, a family responsibility that overwhelms you. However, God uses even the most common, and sometimes the most difficult, people and systems to position you in the right place. He not only moves you from one place to another; He also shapes your character at each stage. In Christ, nothing is an absolute loss when placed in His hands, because He specializes in transforming confusing scenarios into platforms of blessing. The palace you do not understand today may be tomorrow the place from which God will use you to bring hope to others.

If today you feel you have been "taken" to a season you would not have chosen, remember that the God of Esther is still the same. Christ knows your fears, your questions, and your weariness, and He is not scandalized by your confusion; on the contrary, He walks with you in the midst of it. You do not need to understand everything to rest in Him, just take the next step in obedience and faith. The Lord can use this very time, with its limits and surprises, to draw you closer to His heart and prepare you for what is to come. Trust that His hand has not let you go, even if it is not as clear as you would like. Be encouraged: in Christ, even the places you arrived at unwillingly can become stages of grace, purpose, and new hope.
