The wise exhortation of Proverbs 4:23 invites us to place constant vigilance over the heart, for from there spring the wells of life. In our daily life, the mind and the heart are like the cortex of a city: what enters through the senses and settles inside determines the course of our decisions, relationships, and emotions. The call is not to simple self-ridicule, but to a living dependence on God, who transforms the interior so that the exterior may honor Him at every moment, even when no one is watching us.
When the heart is protected by the Word and prayer, the currents of life can flow from a pure source. This does not mean external perfection, but an interior that learns to discern between what pleases God and what pleases the flesh. On the path of faith, spiritual discipline —guarding, keeping, obeying— becomes an act of trust: I trust that God knows my intentions and strengthens my steps so that, amid temptations and distractions, we travel toward the true life He offers.
Today I invite you to evaluate what entries you allow into your heart: thoughts, murmurs, affections, fears, or excessive joys. Because the life that manifests in your actions is born in the depths of that deposit. Ask the Holy Spirit to awaken a sensitive vigilance, to make each day a commitment to holiness and love, and that your inner self become a wellspring of life for those around you. Be encouraged, for God is already walking with you, and He is the source that never runs dry.
