The Hunger for Justice that Welcomes God

As we examine the narrative of Cornelius and Peter, we realize that the prayer of a Gentile who fears God crosses human boundaries. The vision God grants to Cornelius, announcing that He heard his prayer and recognizing his acts of charity, reveals that the Lord does not show favoritism. From there, Peter understands that God does not deal with people on a partial basis, and that every nationality is welcomed by those who fear God and do what is right. This revelation corrects our uneven patterns: it is not origin that determines value before God, but the hunger for justice that shelters a heart willing to seek God and to act uprightly.

The centrality of Christ is revealed in the practice of a gospel that breaks barriers. Jesus does not fixate on borders of ethnicity, color, or external religion; He sees the hunger for justice, the thirst for a life that pleases the Father, and He calls to share the grace that transforms. When Cornelius, a man who fears God, receives Peter's message, the gathering of Jews and Gentiles becomes a living sign that the kingdom of God extends to all who seek righteousness by faith. Our pastoral practice must mirror this widening of Christ's heart, welcoming without discrimination those who, through spiritual hunger, draw near to the Lord.

If Jesus makes no distinction among people, then our community must be shaped by the hunger for justice that Jesus provides. What kind of hunger motivates our faith? To what longing from God does it lead us? The message to the Gentiles calls us to a practice of spiritual hospitality: to listen, to welcome, to correct with gentleness, and to testify with humility. May each encounter be an opportunity to demonstrate that Christ's grace overcomes human walls. May we be moved to seek the justice that comes by faith, recognizing in every person the dignity of one loved by Christ, and encouraging one another to live in a way that the kingdom of God may be manifested in love, in obedience, and in service, for the glory of God.
