The disciples were in the boat with Jesus. They had seen extraordinary miracles, but it took a lack of bread for their hearts to fill with worry. Instead of looking at the one who was with them, they fixed their eyes on what was missing from their hands.
Jesus then lovingly confronts them, questioning why they still did not understand and why their hearts remained hardened. He calls them to reflection, not to condemn them, but to awaken them to a deeper faith and a clearer perception of who He is.
He reminds them of the multiplication of the loaves, of the many full baskets that were left over, bringing to mind God's faithfulness along the way. Each miracle was a reminder of divine care, an invitation to trust more, and not to fear again in the face of each new need.
The issue was never the bread, but the lack of trust in the one who had already shown His care so many times. The problem was not in the scarcity, but in the short memory of a distracted heart, which easily forgets what God has already done when it only looks at what is still lacking.
