Therefore, I declare to all who hear the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book.
And it can remind us of the seriousness with which we approach the Scriptures: we cannot treat God's revelation as a museum for curiosity, nor as a source of novelty that substitutes truth. The message of Revelation 22:18 is a cost of fidelity to what God revealed; it calls us to a humble heart that does not dare to adjust the Word to satisfy personal desires, but remains under the authority of the Author.
When we consider the gravity of adding to or distorting the word, we are invited to seek obedience, humility, and holiness: that our reading of the Bible be marked by reverence, pastoral caution, and the practice of discernment by faith. And even amid difficulties and trials, we can find comfort in the promise that God is faithful – He upholds His Word and sustains those who cling to the revealed truth.
May our Christian walk be encouraged by the firmness of the Word, by the practice of holiness, and by the confidence that, as we remain faithful, we experience the peace that surpasses understanding. Stand firm, confident in God's faithfulness, and may our faithfulness before the Word be a living testimony of hope to those around us.
