The Law, Faith, and Life in Christ: Reflecting on Galatians 3:12

The passage of Galatians 3:12 confronts us with a fundamental truth of the Christian life: the law is not founded on faith, but points to sin and the need for salvation. By saying that he who practices the commandments will live by them is not an invitation to self-sufficiency, but a mirror that reveals our inability to fully fulfill God's justice. Recognizing that the law exposes sin leads us to humility before God and to the awareness that salvation is not by the strength of our performance, but by the grace that Christ offers.

The central idea you brought—that we are not saved by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ—finds full fulfillment in the person of Christ. He did not come to abolish the law, but to fulfill God’s justice on our behalf (Matthew 5:17). When we place our faith in Him, we are not dependent on our merits, but receive God's righteousness as a gift. The faith that saves is also a faith that transforms, producing holiness that is not the fruit of the law, but the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).

Therefore, the Christian life is anchored in the faith that, even in the face of the exposed law, points to the grace of Christ. The pastoral challenge is to lead the people to recognize that the law reveals sin, yes, but the solution is not in a genuine religiosity by one’s own strength. Spiritual resistance, confidence in the Blood of Christ, and dependence on the Holy Spirit strengthen us to live in obedience from a heart that believes, loves, and totally trusts the Savior. May faith in Jesus strengthen our hope and encourage us to walk daily in grace, confident that salvation is already secured in Him.
