The God Who Makes Space for You

In Genesis 1:7, we see God creating the expanse, separating the waters above from the waters below. At first, this may sound like a simple detail of creation, but it reveals something profound about God’s character: He is a God of order, purpose, and careful separation. He does not leave things in formless confusion; He speaks, and boundaries appear. By His word, chaos gives way to clarity, and what was once indistinguishable becomes distinct and meaningful. This same God who shaped the early world is the One who shapes your life today. His creative power did not end in Genesis; it continues in the quiet work He is doing in you even now.

Notice that God’s act of separating the waters created space—a place where life could one day flourish. Before plants, animals, or people appeared, God first made room for them. In a similar way, the Lord often works in us by creating space: separating what needs to be set apart, clearing what is cluttered, and making room for His purposes. Sometimes that feels like loss, confusion, or change, but in His hands, separation is not random; it is preparation. He knows what needs to be moved, surrendered, or reordered so that you can receive the life He intends for you. Where you see empty expanse, God may be quietly preparing a place for growth.

This passage also invites you to trust God with the boundaries He sets. Just as the waters were told, in effect, “You may come this far and no farther,” God’s good limits in your life are not meant to crush you but to protect and guide you. He may be calling you to step away from certain influences, habits, or patterns of thinking that blur your vision of Him. That can feel restrictive in the moment, yet God’s boundaries are part of His loving design, not a denial of joy. When He says no to something, it is so that a deeper yes can take root in your soul. As He orders your days, your relationships, and your priorities, He is lovingly making your life a place where His presence can dwell more fully.

Today, you can rest in the truth that the God who separated the waters knows exactly how to bring order into your heart and circumstances. Where you feel scattered, ask Him to speak His creating, clarifying word again. Where you feel pressed on every side, remember that He is able to carve out new space for peace, growth, and intimacy with Him. You are not at the mercy of chaos; you are held by the same Lord who set the sky in place. Let His wisdom guide your decisions and His boundaries define what truly belongs in your life. And as you trust Him, take courage: the God who once said, “Let there be” is still speaking life over you, shaping you with care, and preparing a beautiful place for you to flourish in Him.
