Anointed with the Oil of Joy of Christ

Rilary V.

Hebrews 1:9 shows us Jesus as the one who loves justice and hates iniquity, and for this reason, He was anointed by God with the oil of joy above all. This joy is not superficial, nor does it depend on good circumstances, but flows from the very heart of the Father's beloved Son. When we look at Christ, we see someone fully satisfied in the will of God, even amidst suffering. The cross did not nullify Jesus' joy, but purified it and revealed it in its deepest form: joy in obeying and glorifying the Father. Thus, the Bible shows us that true joy does not begin in us, but in Jesus, who is the source of all true joy.

If Jesus is our joy, then we will not find it far from Him, no matter how much we try to fill our hearts with other things. The passage reminds us that it is in communion with the just and holy Christ that the oil of joy is poured out. There is a difference between happy moments and the joy that arises from the presence of Christ: moments pass, but He remains. We may have difficult days, real tears, and intense struggles, yet we can still be sustained by a deeper joy that does not deny pain but traverses it with hope. When we choose to love what He loves and reject what He rejects, we draw closer to the heart of Jesus, and His joy begins to overflow in us.

A deep relationship with Jesus is not made in haste, but in time, sincerity, and surrender. It is in the Word, in prayer, and in daily obedience that the heart becomes a place where the oil of joy can be poured out. Often we seek joy in external changes, but the Lord desires first to transform our inner being. When we confess our sins, yield our wills, and surrender our fears, we make room for the Holy Spirit to renew our minds and affections. Gradually, we realize that joy is not just something God gives, but the result of living close to Christ Himself, our anointed King.

Therefore, even if today your heart is tired, anxious, or discouraged, you can remember: joy is not lost; it is in Jesus. Turn to Him as you are, without masks, and ask: "Lord, anoint me with Your oil of joy, renew in me the joy of Your presence." Do not expect to feel everything at once, but believe that, step by step, He will pour this gentle and firm joy over your heart. Allow the love of Jesus, who loves justice and hates iniquity, to shape your desires, decisions, and priorities. Walking this way, you will discover that, even amidst struggles, there is a joy that cannot be stolen, because it is anchored in the living Christ, who is and always will be your true joy.
