The earth obeys the Lord's command

The scene of Genesis 1:12 presents us with a creation that responds to the voice of the Creator: the earth brought forth all vegetation—plants yielding seed according to their kinds, and trees bearing fruit with seed in them. It is not by chance nor by blind force; it is the earth's obedience to the divine command, fulfilling the purpose inscribed by the Creator. The creative Word produces life and sets patterns: each plant according to its seed, each tree according to its kind, and God sees that it is good.

If the earth, matter and soil, obeys the Word, how much more are we, formed in the image of God, called to respond in conscious obedience. The image of the seed that contains within itself its own kind reminds us that God plants in us vocation, gifts and promises — and expects that, through obedience to His command, these seeds will bear fruit. Christian obedience is not servility, but aligning oneself with the creative order that produces life.

In pastoral practice, this means listening to the voice of God through Scripture, allowing the plowing of repentance to prepare our hearts, and practicing faithfulness in small tasks: prayer, service, honesty and care for creation. Like the farmer who tills the soil and waits for germination at the right time, we cultivate patience and perseverance, trusting that obedience produces fruit even when we do not see it immediately. We also care for the created world, recognizing that our stewardship participates in God's benevolent order.

Therefore, rest in the authority of the Word: when you obey, you participate in the work that turns chaos into good; your faithfulness cooperates with God's life-giving action. Rise today to faithfully carry out the Lord's command in the concrete things of your life, knowing that He sees, approves and causes the fruit to sprout; be encouraged to obey, because the Lord is good and His Word brings life.
