Psalm 117 is a simple yet profound invitation: all nations and all peoples are called to praise and glorify the Lord. It is not just a call to the more spiritual, nor just to Israel, but to all of humanity, including you, today, wherever you are. This means that your voice matters to God, that your praise is welcome before Him. In Christ, this invitation becomes even clearer, for it is through Him that all peoples can draw near to the Father. When you open your mouth and heart to worship, you are responding to an eternal call from God, not merely fulfilling a religious obligation.
The psalmist gives a strong reason for this praise: "His love surpasses us." God's love goes beyond what we can feel, measure, or comprehend; He loved us in Christ when we were still sinners and far from Him. Instead of only looking at your flaws and limitations, look at the love that surrounds and sustains you, even when you do not realize it.
The text also declares that "the Lord's faithfulness is for all eternity." God's promises do not expire, do not lose validity with time or circumstances. His faithfulness in Christ is the foundation of our daily hope: He does not change when everything around changes. Perhaps you are facing uncertainties, but the Word assures that God remains the same, yesterday, today, and forever. Therefore, praising is not denying the pain, but affirming, amidst it, that God continues faithful and present in your story.
As you meditate on this psalm, allow praise to be a conscious act of faith and trust. Even if you do not see immediate answers, choose today to lift your voice and your heart to acknowledge who God is: loving, faithful, and worthy of being glorified. You can start by thanking Him for the small details of your day, remembering how He has sustained you thus far. As you praise Him, ask the Holy Spirit to renew your joy in Christ and rekindle your hope. Move forward, knowing that the God who invites "all nations" is also calling you, by name, to live each day under His great love and eternal faithfulness.
