I am not even worthy to go to you. Just say the word from where you are and my servant will be healed.
In this passage from Luke 7:7, we encounter a humility that dismantles the distance between human need and divine authority. The centurion recognizes his unworthiness and, yet, he addresses Jesus with a faith that does not demand physical presence, but effective word. In our lives, how many times do we pretend to approach God with our strength, as if closeness were a condition of our dignity? Here, human dignity yields to the greatness of Christ; the humble obedience of that man reveals a faith that does not rest on merits, but on the authority of the word of God which has power to heal and restore.
