In John 1:36 a witness points out the essential: behold the Lamb of God. In a few words John identifies Christ's mission as the one who takes away sin, and that declaration does not remain theoretical but provokes a response: some begin to follow him. Seeing Jesus this way changes the course of life because it recognizes in him the ultimate answer to the problem of sin and the hope of reconciliation with the Father.
Jesus turns and asks, 'What are you looking for?' That question goes to the heart and unmasks motives: are we seeking spectacle, fleeting comfort, human security, or the very presence of the Lord? Those who followed answered humbly, 'Rabbi, where are you staying?', showing that their search was not curiosity but a desire for intimacy. The disciples' restlessness teaches us that the first step of discipleship is to ask about Christ's dwelling, not about his gifts.
The plea 'where are you staying?' reveals a longing for permanence: it's not enough to admire from a distance; one desires to stay with Him. In practice this implies prioritizing the presence of Jesus through the Word, prayer, and the community where God makes himself present. When we seek where Christ dwells and make ourselves ready to remain with him, our questions and expectations are transformed into knowledge and obedience that shape our daily life.
Today Jesus also looks at you and asks you the same question: 'What are you seeking?' Do not be afraid to answer and to ask where he dwells; come near with sincerity and remain beside him. Take heart: if you follow the Lamb who takes away sin you will find forgiveness, companionship, and direction for your life, and in his presence your search will receive an answer and hope.
