In Him Who Created the Heavens and the Earth: Reflections on Intimacy with Christ from Genesis 1:1

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. This initial declaration is not merely a cosmic origin, but an opening to find in Christ the strength that sustains all of creation. When we contemplate the Word, we realize that the beginning of history was not chance, but the action of the One who is the Word, by whom all things were made. Jesus, who is the eternal Word, participates in the creative work and at the same time offers Himself as the source of new creation for humanity. Meditating on this is to recognize that the Christian life is a walk under the authority of the One who, in Jesus, holds the fullness of power and wisdom that shapes the world.

As we approach Genesis 1:1, we are invited to recognize that the beauty of creation points to the relationship with the Creator. God’s work reveals a moral and aesthetic design that reflects the character of Christ: order, purpose, and care. While the biblical text does not describe every detail, it promises that everything was made with intention, so that humanity may find in it the source of meaning. In Christ, creation finds its final rest, for in Him all things were created, and in Him all things hold together (Colossians 1:16-17). This connection is not merely cosmological, but pastoral: God calls His people to live in dependence on Him as Creator and Sustainer, responding with worship, obedience, and faith.

From this foundation, we can draw near to daily practice: recognizing that our faith is anchored in the Lord who sustains the universe and, yet, incarnates in human history to redeem it. The humility of the beginning reveals that our own life needs to be redesigned by God’s grace, so that our actions reflect the order God imposes on the cosmos. In Christ, who we are is defined by our relationship with the Father and by the indwelling of the Spirit, who calls us to witness the good news with a pure heart, living in a way that our choices align with God’s will, even when we face challenges or ambiguities of the world. This is the pastoral invitation: depend on Christ in building a life that honors the Creator, seeks wisdom in every decision, and reflects the fidelity that flows from faith in Jesus.

Final motivation/encouragement: do not fear the size of the beginning, for in Christ God begins and sustains all of creation; trust in Him today, walk in obedience, and bear witness to the good news with perseverance, knowing that your life, dedicated to the Lord, is part of the great redemptive story that begins at the origin and finds its fullness in eternity.
