Shared Possession: The Father, the Son, and What Is Declared to Us

In John 16:15 Jesus draws a bright line through the life of God: "All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you." The sentence presses the intimacy and unity of the Trinity—what the Father possesses is fully shared with the Son, and what belongs to the Son will be communicated to the church through the Spirit.

This truth means our access to God is mediated by Jesus and brought home to us by the Spirit. When Jesus promises that the Spirit will take what is his and declare it, he is assuring us that divine truth, comfort, authority, and presence are not abstract ideas but living realities poured into our hearts. Scripture, prayer, and the Spirit’s witness work together as the voice of the triune God rather than as competing sources.

That has immediate, practical implications for daily faith: approach the Father through Jesus, expect the Spirit to make Christ’s life and the Father’s riches known to you, and let those revealed realities shape your choices. Because all that the Father has is Christ’s, you walk into relationship with God carrying his mercy, wisdom, and provision; because the Spirit declares these things, you are invited to listen, to test what you hear by Jesus’ teaching, and to let it reorder fear, decisions, and relationships.

Hold fast to the assurance Jesus gives—God’s Father and Son are inseparably one, and the Spirit is actively making that oneness known to you. Let this gospel truth ground your confidence, guide your prayers, and steady your witness as you live under Christ’s lordship. Be encouraged: the triune God is sharing his life with you now, and he will continue to declare Christ’s riches to your heart.
