My old self has been crucified with Christ. I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
This passage strips us of all pretension: we are not the sum of our projects, talents, or efforts. In Christ, the life we now live is a life of radical dependence: not on our strength, but on the presence that dwells in us. If He lives in me, my plans fade before His purpose; if my trust is in Him, my fear is transformed into obedience through faith fed by His love demonstrated on the cross.
The practical consequence is simple and deep at the same time: every decision, every daily task, every remission of my will must be filtered by the truth that I am no longer available to my own ego, but to Christ who loved me and gave Himself for me. This changes my way of relating to others, my handling of time, and my priorities. It is not a moralistic ethic, but a living communion: walking in the reality that Christ is my life, and my life no longer belongs to me, but to Him who loved me and gave Himself for me.
