They were carrying Jesus.
In Acts 3:2, the man who was lame is brought to the Beautiful Gate to beg for alms. The scene is one of vulnerability, dependence, and waiting. But the truth that illuminates the text is precisely the invisible announcement that there is someone who bears the weight of the human condition: Jesus, present in the life of the community that worships Him. When we recognize that our humanity needs, we discover that the transformative power does not come from our hands, but from what the Crucified and Risen One does for us, including when we do not recognize Him immediately. This is a summons to look beyond the immediate need and perceive who is in the middle of the people, bearing not only pain but the hope that transcends time.
What does it mean for us to consider that “they were carrying Jesus”? It means a practice of faith that transforms daily life: the presence of Jesus becomes real in the community that sustains, helps, and hosts the needy. Action that arises from communion, from shared prayer, from mercy that does not see only the deficiency, but the dignity of the man before the Gift that restores. Thus, the miracle is not merely the quiver of coins or physical healing, but the revelation that God moves through the hands that place themselves at service of the other, so that the glory of Christ may be known in the street, at the temple gate, in the everyday life of each day.
In this dynamic, we are invited to reflect on how we carry Jesus for those around us: at home, at work, in the church. The text reminds us that faith is not merely private belief, but public testimony that transforms structures of exclusion into spaces of encounter. When we make ourselves available to carry the Messenger of grace through practical life — offering time, compassion, resources, prayer — we become instruments of God’s work. May we, therefore, open our hands and hearts, serving as bearers of the presence that heals, restores, and gives a new beginning. May the Spirit empower us to recognize the urgency of the moment, to persevere in prayer, and to depend on the grace that sustains, with the certainty that carrying Jesus is also our mission of evangelization and care.
