When God Took Him: Lessons from Enoch

Valeria G.

The short Genesis 5:24 verse —"Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away"— confronts us with the reality of a possible intimacy with the Lord. Enoch was not distinguished by great human feats but by a life continually beside God: walking with Him implies daily readiness, communion, obedience, and trust. That walk transforms existence and makes it suitable for divine presence.

When we ask why God took Enoch and not Noah, Scripture lets us see that God’s paths are not reduced to a single formula. Noah was called to a redemptive mission amid judgment: to build the ark and preserve life. Enoch, by contrast, testified that someone can be found so compliant with God that his destiny was to be translated. Both show faithfulness, but with different purposes in God’s sovereign plan.

Christ reveals and perfects that call to walk with the Father. Jesus invites us to follow Him, to walk in communion with Him, and He promises that those who persevere in that life will find consolation, identity, and hope. Walking with Christ does not guarantee a uniform chronological destiny for all; it does assure that our life, whether in active mission or in deep communion, is in the hands of God who acts with purpose and mercy.

May this urge us to cultivate a constant relationship with Jesus: sincere prayer, humble obedience, and daily companionship. Do not compare your calling with another’s; rather, strive to be faithful where He has placed you. Trust that God knows your story and will guide you — walk with Him today and remain steadfast in the hope of His presence.
