The Word at the Beginning

Genesis 1:1 declares that in the beginning God created the heavens and the earth, a simple sentence that anchors all of Scripture in a Creator who is both transcendent and personal. Creation is not accidental; it is willed, ordered, and good because God brought it into being. That foundational truth gives weight to every human life and every moment in the world he made.

John 1:1 makes the crucial connection for us: the Word was with God in the beginning and the Word was God. This Word is Jesus, the eternal Son who stood with the Father when light, sky, and life first came into being. To say Jesus was present at the dawn of creation is to affirm his pre-existence, his active role as Creator, and his intimacy with the Father from before time itself.

Practically, this means our own beginnings and new beginnings are held within the care of the One who speaks worlds into existence. When you face a new season—whether a call to serve, a fresh start after failure, or the painful aftermath of loss—remember you are not starting alone or under a distant god. Your identity, purpose, and calling are rooted in the Creator-Word who knows you, sustains you, and orders your days; this shapes how we repent, pray, and step forward in obedience and hope.

So when doubts about your past or fears about the future press in, rest in the truth that Jesus who was with God at the beginning is with you now. Trust his sovereignty, lean into his presence, and let the Creator-Word shape your next steps. Take heart and be encouraged: the One who called the universe into being walks with you into every new beginning.
