Understanding the Designated Time: Wisdom for the Journey of Youth

Sibelle S.

The advances of nature reveal a truth that traverses generations: every creature is shaped by defined times, by the seasons that Yahweh has determined. In Jeremiah 8:7, we see the reflection that even birds, with their swallows and doves, observe the cycles and periods that are suitable for them, while God’s people often do not recognize the will and orders of the Lord. Our devotion, then, needs to be renewed by the understanding that there is a designated time for every spark of faith that lights in our hearts. This is a pastoral invitation for us to learn, with humility, to discern the time of God in each stage of life, especially in youth, where decisions shape the future of the kingdom.

When the birds, still young in their journeys, overcome fear with youthful courage, they remind us that wisdom is not only experience, but tuning in to God’s will at the right time. The central idea of the notes is clear: that young people, like the fledglings who discover the air, recognize their designated time—the hour when the sun reveals the path, even if they have not yet traveled long distances. Let us, as a faith community, teach young people to trust in the Lord’s direction, to seek discernment in the Scriptures, and to practice obedience that prepares the way for the fulfillment of God’s purposes in their lives.

The practical application, then, is to cultivate a spirituality that hears God’s call in the present—at school, at work, at home, and in relationships. We need to sustain the youth with prayer, the Word, and a community that encourages them to plan responsibly, to dream with holiness, and to act with courage based on Yahweh’s revealed will. Thus, youth will not drift but will walk in wisdom, recognizing that the designated time is a gift that calls for a life of faith in action, obeying the Lord with joy. May every young heart find consolation and direction in the promise that God guides, sustains, and prepares the way for their journey in His presence.
