A Life Marked by True Love

Paulo begins by remembering that everything we are and have comes from God's grace, and this completely changes the way we see ourselves. Instead of a heart full of pride or low self-esteem, the Lord calls us to have a balanced view of ourselves, aligned with the faith He has granted us. When we remember that our identity is in Christ, we stop depending on comparisons, others' opinions, and even our own insecurities. Christian humility is not thinking little of oneself, but thinking of oneself truthfully, in light of what God says in His Word. Thus, the first step to living authentic love is to receive, with gratitude, who we are in Christ and to put this identity at the service of others, not ourselves.

In the text, we see that true love does not go hand in hand with pretense, masks, or religious performances. God calls us to a sincere love, which is not just a beautiful speech, but a way of living that comes from a heart transformed by Jesus. To love without pretense means allowing the Holy Spirit to address our intentions, purify our interests, and align our motivations with the character of Christ. This requires honesty before God, repentance when we notice selfishness, and a willingness to forgive and start over. It is in this process that love becomes more than a fleeting feeling, becoming a daily commitment to reflect God's own love in our relationships.

At the same time, Paul calls us to hate evil and cling to good, because genuine love is neither neutral nor indifferent. To love like Christ is to reject what hurts, destroys, deceives, and drives people away from God, and to embrace everything that is just, pure, and uplifting. This applies to our thoughts, attitudes, and also to our relationships: we do not feed gossip, injustices, or hidden interests, but seek what builds up the faith of others. Clinging to good means choosing, repeatedly, the path of truth, integrity, and mercy, even when it costs us. In this journey, we learn to better discern what pleases the Lord and to make good not just an occasional choice, but a lifestyle in Christ.

Finally, we are called to love with dedication and to prefer honoring others more than ourselves, and this is deeply motivating for daily life. In a world that encourages self-promotion, Jesus invites us to a different path: to value, encourage, and serve the people around us. Every gesture of honor, every word of encouragement, every act of silent service is an opportunity to reveal the heart of Christ. Even when you feel small, tired, or discouraged, remember that the Holy Spirit dwells in you and empowers you to love beyond your own strength. Walk today with this certainty: God has already given you, by grace, everything you need to live a sincere, practical, and transformative love, and He will use your life to touch many hearts.
