Let there be light — the Word that illuminates

When God pronounced, 'Let there be light!', creation responded immediately to the authority of His Word; darkness did not resist the divine command and order sprang from chaos. This episode in Genesis reveals the creative power of the Word of God — not just any voice, but the expression of His sovereign power that makes present what does not yet exist. In Christ, the Word that created the universe became flesh and continues to speak, bringing light where there were once shadows.

The darkness Scripture describes is not only physical; it symbolizes confusion, fear, sin and inner disorientation. Whenever we feel trapped in nights of the soul — doubts, remorse, uncertainties about the future — the same creative Word of Genesis can tear the veil and reveal paths. Divine light is revelation: it shows the truth about God, about ourselves and about the direction to take, confronting what lives hidden in our hearts.

Pastorally, this means we need to expose our darkness to the creative Word. Practically and concretely: read the Scriptures with prayer, ask the Father to speak clearly, confess the areas where you fear the light and obey the steps of correction it points out. It is not passivity; it is an active response of faith: welcome the Word, allow it to transform thoughts, attitudes and decisions, and act with courage as the light clears our path.

If today you are going through a night, remember the promise implicit in that simple sentence: God speaks and it happens. Ask Him to say 'Let there be light' over your fear, over your relationships, over your choices. Rise with hope — the same Word that created everything wants to bring light into your life now; surrender, obey, and wait in faith for the clarity and the peace that only Christ can bring.
