Hebrews 4:16 calls us to approach the throne of grace with boldness, and not with fear, shame, or embarrassment. In Christ, we do not need to shrink back before God as if fearing inevitable punishment, but we can come to Him with an open heart, certain that we are welcome in His presence.
The word translated as "confidence" carries the idea of freedom in speaking, openness of heart, serene courage, and even joy in approaching. It is not an arrogant confidence, but a humble assurance that, in Jesus, we have full permission to come before God without masks and without pretense.
This means that when you pray, you are not approaching an angry judge, tired of you or inclined to reject you. In Christ, you come before a loving Father and a King who already receives you with favor, not because of your merits, but because of the blood of Jesus that opened the way and guaranteed your permanent access.
Thus, the throne of God, for those in Christ, is no longer a place of condemnation, but a constant source of mercy and timely help. Therefore, prayer ceases to be a heavy and tiring obligation and becomes a precious privilege: a daily and loving invitation to enter, with confidence, into the presence of the God who welcomes, forgives, and helps.
