When there is no king: order in the midst of chaos according to Scripture

In the Judges 21:25 narrative, we observe a people without central leadership and without clear norms, where everyone did what seemed right to them. The absence of just authority reveals that independence without divine direction tends to generate disorder, frustration, and painful consequences for the community. Humanity, created to live under God's sovereignty, is made fragile when there is no reference point to guide ethics, justice, and mutual care. In the midst of this scenario, we are reminded that rules are not mere limitations, but provisions of divine grace that protect the dignity of every person and strengthen community life.

When we reaffirm that without rules chaos will ensue, we are not promoting empty legalism, but recognizing God's wisdom to structure relationships, families, and responsibilities. Rules, from a biblical perspective, do not reduce freedom; they guide it toward the greater good, toward a coexistence that honors God and respects one another. Prayer, wisdom, and obedience become, then, tools of leadership that care not only about order but about justice, mercy, and care for the vulnerable.

Called to live as citizens of God's kingdom even in times of human chaos, we are called to seek rules that arise from love, truth, and holiness. Not only to prevent social collapse, but to reveal to the world that there is a way of life that orders human desire according to God's will. May every decision, every action, be guided by the faith that trusts in Christ's sovereignty, producing a testimony of hope, courage, and perseverance in the face of difficulties, encouraging us to stand firm and walk in faithfulness.
