Crescendo em Cristo: The Truth that Sustains Us

Jennifer S.

The passage from Ephesians 4:14-15 presents us with a clear exhortation to spiritual maturity, an invitation not to remain in a state of instability and vulnerability. The image of "unstable children" is powerful, as it reminds us that immaturity makes us susceptible to any wind of doctrine that blows in our direction. The apostle Paul warns us about the deception that can come from cunning men, who seek to distort the truth for their own benefit. Therefore, it is essential that, in our journey of faith, we seek to know and understand the Scriptures deeply, so that we can discern what is true from what is false. Christian maturity is not just a desire, but a necessity to navigate the traps of life and faith, which are often camouflaged as acceptable truths.

Growing in Christ is a continuous and intentional process. The apostle teaches us that we must follow the truth in love, which implies an active pursuit of this truth, but also healthy and loving relationships with others. We cannot grow alone; the faith community is a place where we are challenged, encouraged, and corrected. By connecting with other believers, we are exposed to different perspectives and experiences that help shape our understanding of divine truth. Thus, love becomes the foundation upon which we build our faith, allowing the truth to unite and strengthen us, even in the face of life's adversities and uncertainties.

The figure of Christ as the "head" is central to understanding our identity and purpose. He is the perfect model of maturity, and as we look to Him, we find not only an example to follow but also the source of our strength and wisdom. Growing in Christ means imitating His attitudes, His values, and His love. It is a daily challenge that requires discipline, prayer, and the willingness to set aside our own desires in favor of His will. Therefore, as we dedicate ourselves to this journey, we are being transformed, not only for our benefit but to positively and lastingly impact those around us.

Finally, I want to encourage you not to be discouraged in this journey of spiritual growth. Maturity in Christ is a goal worth pursuing, and every small step taken towards Him is a step towards a fuller and truer life. Remember that we are not alone; we have the Holy Spirit as our guide and the faith community as support. May we commit to following the truth in love, allowing Christ to be the center of our lives, and thus, we will be transformed and empowered to reflect His light in a world that so desperately needs it. Together, we are invited to be better every day, growing in love and truth, steadfast and unshakeable in faith.
