Children of God: the hope that purifies

Behold what manner of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. This identity in Christ is not an empty title, but an invitation to live from a real relationship with the One who appeared to destroy the works of the devil. When the world looks at us, it does not understand, because it has not known Him; but we know who our Father is and where His grace is guiding us. In the midst of the Christian life, the hope of seeing Jesus as He is calls us to a life of purity and truth, so that we may resemble Him more and more in character and love, even though not yet all that we will be has been manifested.

Scripture confronts us with the reality of sin and righteousness: whoever practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous; whoever sins is of the devil, because the devil has sinned from the beginning. But the grace of Christ has transferred us from condemnation to the identity of children of God. In Him there is no sin, and the one who remains in Him does not sin; this intimate fellowship with Christ gives us the strength to overcome sin, not by our own ethic, but by the seed of God that remains in us. Therefore, let no one deceive us: our daily life must be marked by obedience, faithfulness, and trust in the redemptive work of Jesus.

As we live this reality of sons and heirs, we are called to a practice of holiness that arises from the hope in the manifestation of Christ. Purification is not an independent effort, but a response of faith to the grace that calls us to be like Him. On this Sunday, may we renew our confidence that the victory over sin has already been achieved in Him and that, by faith, we can advance with courage. May the certainty of being children of God motivate our faithfulness, preserve us in the truth, and drive us to live with joy and purpose for the glory of His name.
