The work of God: to believe in the One He sent

Jesus sums up the Christian life in a simple and profoundly subversive sentence: "The work of God is this: that you believe in the one He has sent." (John 6:29). It is not a list of religious tasks, but a clear direction for the heart: God wants us to trust in the person and work of Jesus Christ. That trust is not a passing emotion, but an act of surrender that places Christ at the center of our reason for living.

Believing in Jesus implies recognizing who He is — the One sent by the Father, the Messiah who came to reconcile us with God. This faith embraces the story of the cross and the resurrection, accepts the grace we cannot earn, and responds with a life that follows Him. In daily life this means looking to Jesus when doubts arise, seeking His word to guide decisions, and allowing the truth of the Gospel to shape our thinking and will.

Practically, living out this work of God transforms priorities: it ceases to be the earning of merits and becomes daily dependence. Instead of measuring spirituality by visible works, we measure it by trust: praying sincerely, confessing weaknesses, obeying out of love rather than obligation, and testifying to the hope we have. True faith produces fruit — not to gain divine favor, but because we already have it in Christ.

Therefore, today take time to renew your trust in the One the Father sent. If weariness, guilt, or striving have stolen your peace, remember: the work God expects of you is to believe. Place your hands and your fears into Jesus' care, and allow Him to complete His work in your heart. Have courage: believe again, and live the freedom that only He gives.
