Trusting the Inheritance of the Promise: Walking in Faithfulness When the Way Seems Large

Many times we look around and see large territories before us: cities, regions, challenges that seem impossible to overcome. In Deuteronomy 3:10, the account of Moses reminds us that God receives his people across borders drawn by his grace: the cities of Gilead and Bashan, Salcah and Edrei, all of them belonging to the kingdom of Og, and yet it was not human strength that secured victory, but the faithfulness of Him who promised. This passage invites us to contemplate the serenity of obedience that is not credited to the magnitude of the objectives, but to the faithfulness of the God who accompanies his people. If we look at the map of our lives, we can see structures and obstacles that seem unbreakable; however, God's grace opens a path where there is no path and calls us to move forward in confidence, remembering that the promised land is not only a place, but a relationship with the Lord who grants it.

The key virtue in this scene is trust. The people receive cities and lands as an inheritance, not by their own merit, but by God's promise. In our daily life, we are also called to move forward with the same attitude: to work diligently in our responsibilities, to seek divine guidance in every decision, and to believe that God can open doors of opportunity even when they seem closed. This text invites us not to reduce faith to a fleeting emotional sensation, but to a deep conviction that the Lord is with his people, sustaining us and guiding us to fulfill his purpose with integrity and humility. The victory described is not only territorial, but spiritual: it is the proof of a God who overcomes fear, weariness, and doubt, so that his glory may be manifested in the midst of our journey.

In today’s calling, the history of the ancients and ours are intertwined: every brave step we take in obedience is a testimony to God's faithfulness. Let us take to heart the words of the psalmist who says that the Lord prepares a table in the presence of our enemies and that his joy is our strength. Thus, every city, every step of faith, every stretch of the journey, becomes an opportunity to live the grace that frees and sustains us. May our life reflect a trust that does not depend on what we see, but on Him who promises and fulfills. And at the end of each attempt to advance, let us remember that we are not alone: the God of the promise walks with us, sustaining us with his love and leading us toward the fulfillment of his kingdom, with courage to keep moving forward with bravery and hope.
