Neither to the Right nor to the Left: Faithful Obedience

The Lord spoke to Joshua with a clear command: be strong and very courageous, and keep all the law that Moses gave you; do not turn to the right or to the left. That mandate is not an arbitrary limit but an invitation to walk within the boundaries God has set for the life of his people. In Christ we find the fullness of the law and the direction for our steps; the courage asked of us arises from trusting in his presence and his word as an infallible guide.

Neither to the right nor to the left means, in practice, not adding requirements on our own or falling into extremes that distort God's will. It is not about cold, mechanical obedience, nor about a legalism that turns human traditions into divine mandates; nor about a permissive attitude that neglects the command to follow Jesus. It is about sincere faithfulness: do not add, do not subtract, do not ignore; measure everything by the revealed Scripture and by the voice of Christ in the church.

Living this way requires spiritual courage and daily discipline. Being obedient to God's law involves cultivating habits of Bible reading, prayer, and communal discernment, so that our decisions do not arise from impulses or emotional extremes. Jesus enables us by the Spirit to carry out the Father's will; faithful obedience does not bind us but frees us to experience the promised success: to prosper wherever we go according to his purpose.

Today, decide to walk within the paths God has marked out: avoid additions and omissions, seek the wisdom of the Word and rely on the Spirit. Remain strong and courageous, for the Lord goes before you; trust in Christ, obey with humility and move forward with hope. Take heart, walk firmly and do not stray!
