Welcome to God’s Story

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” With these simple words, Scripture opens not with us, but with God—His initiative, His power, His purpose. Before there was a world to stand on, a sky to look at, or a heart to beat, there was God, fully sufficient and overflowing with life. Genesis 1:1 is like a doorway we step through, a welcome into a story that did not start with our failures or fears, but with God’s creative love. When we feel small or unsure where we fit, this verse quietly reminds us that our lives are set inside a world God Himself thought up and spoke into existence. You are not wandering into chaos; you are entering a creation that began with God’s wise and loving intention.

This beginning also tells us something about our identity. If God created the heavens and the earth, then every part of your life is lived on His canvas and under His sky. You are not an accident of history or a random collection of moments; you are a person living in a world that exists because God wanted it here. That means there is room for you in His plans, even when you feel late, lost, or left out. The same God who said “Let there be” to the universe has also said “Welcome” to you in Christ—inviting you to know Him, trust Him, and walk with Him. Our faith grows stronger when we remember that the One who made everything is the One who now holds our days.

Through Jesus, this Creator-God draws even nearer. The New Testament tells us that all things were created through Christ and for Christ, and that He holds all things together. The God of Genesis 1:1 is not distant or uninterested; He stepped into His own creation as a man, lived among us, died for our sins, and rose again. The One who formed galaxies also formed a way for you to be forgiven and restored, not by your efforts, but by His grace. So when you read “In the beginning, God created,” you can also hear, “In your beginning, God is present”—in your fresh starts, your new seasons, and your quiet attempts to trust Him again. Every new day is a small echo of that first day of creation, a sign that He is still making things new.

So welcome—welcome into a world God created, a story God is telling, and a grace God freely offers in Christ. When you feel overwhelmed, remember that the One who spoke the heavens into place is not confused by your situation. When you feel invisible, remember that the God who called light out of darkness sees you and calls you by name. When you are starting again—new habits, new community, new faith—know that the God of all beginnings delights to meet you there. Today, let Genesis 1:1 steady your heart: you are not starting from nothing; you are starting with God, who has been here from the very beginning and will be faithful to you to the end.
