Genesis 1:26 marks the climax of the creation narrative: God decrees that human beings be made in his image and grants them authority over the earth. In this single verse two truths that shape our identity are present — dignity granted by the Creator and a public vocation of governance — and both derive from God's sovereign initiative, not from our merit.
Being made in the image of God means being called to reflect his character: intelligence, morality, relational capacity, commitment to truth, and creativity. This very understanding transforms our practical life — the way we treat others, how we work, how we decide — for each person bears intrinsic worth and each action should seek to mirror justice, mercy, and beauty in the manner of the Lord.
The mandate to “dominate” creation should be understood as responsible stewardship: servant leadership that orders, preserves, and cultivates according to the Creator's wisdom, not autonomous exploitation. In daily life this is realized in ethical choices about the use of resources, in policies that protect the vulnerable, in sustainable care for animals and environments, and in work that honors God and benefits the community.
If sin has deformed this image, the incarnation, death, and resurrection of Christ inaugurate the restoration; we are called to live as reconciled image-bearers, allowing the Spirit to shape our motivations and actions. Therefore, rise today with the conviction that your purpose is to reflect God's glory in every context: act responsibly, love faithfully, and trust in the grace that empowers and restores.
