The psalmist cries out: "Teach me to do your will, for you are my God. May your good Spirit lead me on level ground!" This prayer combines two truths we need daily: to recognize God as our Lord and to admit that we still need to learn to walk in His ways. It is not automatic to know how to do God's will; it is something learned, step by step, in the presence of Jesus. When we ask "teach me," we confess that we do not know everything and that our hearts are easily inclined to other paths. But at the same time, we rest in the goodness of the Holy Spirit, who does not guide us harshly, but with love, in a "level ground," that is, on a firm, safe path aligned with God's will.
When you pray: "Teach me to walk in your ways every day, Lord Jesus," you are joining the same prayer of the psalmist. Walking in the Lord's ways is not just about avoiding sin, but learning to live as Jesus lived: with obedience, meekness, love, and trust in the Father. This reaches the small decisions of each day: how you speak, how you react, how you manage your time and priorities. Instead of seeking only quick answers, you are invited to seek a teachable heart, willing to be corrected and adjusted by the Lord. Jesus does not just want you to know His will, but to desire it and practice it with joy, like a child who fully trusts the Father.
This learning happens in practice, often through common situations of daily life. Upon waking, you can surrender the day to Christ and ask: "Lord, today, teach me again to walk with you." At work, in the family, in relationships, with each choice you can ask: "Does this please the Lord? Does this reflect the ways of Jesus?" When you realize you have failed, do not give up: turn to Him in repentance and ask the Spirit to lead you again on "level ground." Each fall can become a new lesson in grace, humility, and dependence, where you learn more about the character of Christ and the beauty of obeying His voice.
Remember that God does not reject those who pray sincerely: "Teach me to do your will." He delights in a heart that desires to be guided, even if it is still fragile and imperfect. The Holy Spirit is by your side today, willing to guide your steps in great things and small, making the path more level and clear as you trust. It is not your strength that guarantees the way, but the faithfulness of the Lord who leads you. Therefore, keep praying in faith: "Lord Jesus, every day, continue teaching me to walk in your ways." Walk with hope, for He who began a good work in you is faithful to complete it, and each new day is an opportunity to grow in obedience and intimacy with Him.
