But eagerly desire the better gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way.
In these words the apostle Paul does not merely invite us to seek gifts, but to desire the best that God offers to his church: a path that transcends the mere manifestation of gifts and leads us to maturity in Christ. The passage reminds us that God’s grace is not a catalog of abilities, but an invitation to live in the fullness of his love, obedience, and purpose. When we behold the hands that the Spirit can move, we must first turn our hearts toward the person of Jesus, who is the source of every gift and the measure of every service. Desiring the gifts without the grace that perfects them can degenerate into pride; desiring the excellence that God proposes calls us to cultivate humility, faith, and surrender.
The most excellent path is, in essence, Christ living in us. It is not about competing for human applause, but about being instruments available for the glory of God. Let us trust that God, by giving us the best, also challenges us to a purity of heart, to a obedience that translates into humble and constant service. In the midst of trials and opportunities, may our confidence not be in the strength of our gift, but in the faithfulness of the one who calls us. May the burning desire for gifts become a greater desire: to walk in the excellent path that is Christ, so that our lives testify of a transforming love, a hope that does not deceive, and a truth that sets free. Encourage yourself to live each day in that fullness: seek, serve, and remain in Him, knowing that in Him you already have sufficiency to move forward and bless others.
