Before form, beauty, and life existed, the Bible presents us with a disconcerting scene: a land without order, empty and covered in darkness. Nothing seemed to have a future; there were no flowers to admire, no mountains to contemplate, no blue skies to enjoy; only disorder and darkness everywhere.
But in the midst of that gloomy description, a phrase full of hope bursts forth: "and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters." In the midst of chaos and the absence of everything we consider beautiful or valuable, God was already at work. He had not given up on His creation, nor had He abandoned His purpose.
God was not absent, He was not far away, He was not indifferent; He was there, present, close, attentive, moving over the chaos. Although nothing yet had form or meaning, His Spirit was already preparing the stage for the life, light, and order that would soon come by His powerful word.
The same happens with our lives: even when we perceive them as disordered, empty, or shrouded in darkness, the Spirit of God has not left. Even if we do not see Him, He is silently moving over everything we do not understand, preparing our hearts and our story for something new that we have yet to imagine.
