Praise the Lord is not an act exclusive to those in a temple, but a mandate that reaches all of creation. When the psalmist summons the earth, the sea monsters, and the depths, he is reminding us that praise does not depend on our visible situation, but on the greatness of God. In every corner of the cosmos his merit and glory are revealed, and our response must be recognition and gratitude. Certainly we all should praise, and that duty translates into a life of gratitude, obedience, and trust. If the voice of the world fills with complaint, the voice of faith must rise with a song of trust in God. Our praise is not a hollow ritual, but a declaration that God is worthy of all worship and of our entire life. May the Christian community uphold one another in song, remembering that praising is not only a moment, but a persevering attitude that illumines the path with hope and courage to move forward.
